Dr. Prabhat AryaMD · Internal Medicine

Your parents in India. You, abroad. One physician who knows them.

When parents grow older and you live far away, the worry is not only illness. It is not knowing: whether the new report is serious, whether all those medicines are still right, and who to call if something goes wrong at night. This page is about what a regular physician can do for them, and for you.

One doctor who knows the whole picture.

Older parents often see several doctors and collect several prescriptions. Dr. Prabhat Arya, an MD Medicine physician, looks at all of it together, so that nothing clashes or is doubled up. The same doctor sees them each time.

Your parents consult from home, by video, at a pace he advises: for example every one to three months for a steady long-term illness, sooner when something changes. They do not need to travel or sit in a waiting room.

You can join the call from abroad.

With your parents’ agreement, you can join the video call from wherever you live, hear what he says, and ask your own questions. Ask when you book; Dr. Arya approves each person who joins.

He goes through each report on the call in plain words. The plan is written in the prescription, so you and your parents read exactly the same thing, and they can forward it to you.

If there is an emergency

  • An online physician is not an emergency service and cannot send an ambulance.
  • In an emergency in India, the number is 112.

Call 112 or go to the nearest emergency department. Ambulance: 108 (102 in some states).

What helps most is being ready

Keep one sheet at your parents’ home, on the fridge or by the phone. Tick off each line as you add it. He can help put together the list of illnesses and medicines at a consultation.

About health insurance.

He does not sell or recommend insurance policies. But insurers ask about every existing illness, and a clear, dated list from their doctor makes those forms easier to fill in truthfully.
